Following the creative process of recording an album, Leilani’s Fortune takes us on an intimate journey with queer, immigrant Ethiopian-Eritrean artist Ayo Leilani aka Witch Prophet as she navigates newfound momentum and stands true to her voice. After a decade in the industry and on the heels of major critical acclaim and nominations, Witch Prophet is finally getting the validation and support she needs to create the album of her prophecies. For years, she has fought an uphill battle in an unforgiving Canadian music industry that refuses to champion artists creating outside the mainstream, despite their ability to garner a huge community of committed fans. Leilani’s Fortune was partially filmed in Northern Ontario, featuring stunning scenery of the annual River & Sky Camping and Music Festival.
