North of Normal director Carly Stone explores the struggle to balance filial devotion with a longing for a more conventional life in her adaptation of Cea Sunrise Person’s 2014 memoir, which details the author’s counterculture youth in the wilds of 1970s Western Canada. Carly Stone is no stranger to Greater Sudbury, with her previous film The New Romantic screening as a Gala Presentation at Cinéfest 2018 and winning Outstanding Feature Film at the 2019 edition of the Northern Ontario Music and Film Awards. North of Normal also features lead actor Robert Carlyle (The Full Monty), and actor Sarah Gadon, who starred in All My Puny Sorrows, the Opening Gala at Cinéfest 2021. North of Normal was filmed in Sudbury, North Bay, and Mattawa Ontario.
