Wrong Husband (Uiksaringitara)

Igloolik, Nunavut, 2000 BCE. Kaujak (Kappianaq) and Sapa (Angutimarik) were promised to each other at birth. After the sudden death of Kaujak’s father, her mother marries a man from another camp tearing the young lovers apart. The promise of a better life quickly turns to a nightmare, with aggressive suitors backed by an evil shaman vying to win Kaujak’s hand. But Kaujak resists, holding on to hope that Sapa will one day make things right. Previous films by Zacharias Kunuk to screen at Cinéfest include Atanarjuat: The Fast Runner (2001) and The Journals of Knud Rasmussen (2006).

Igloolik, Nunavut, 2000 ans avant Jésus-Christ. Kaujak et Sapa sont promis l’un à l’autre. Après la mort subite du père de Kaujak, un homme d’un autre clan arrive le même jour. La mère l’épouse. Les deux jeunes amoureux sont séparés. Pour Kaujak, la promesse d’une vie meilleure tourne rapidement au cauchemar alors que des prétendants agressifs soutenus par un chaman maléfique souhaitent l’avoir comme épouse. Elle résiste comme elle peut, déchirée entre le devoir d’obéir à la tradition et l’espoir que Sapa la retrouve un jour.
