Nika & Madison

The story follows Madison (Slade), who is arrested and sexually assaulted by a police officer after a night out. When her best friend Nika (Jade) takes matters into her own hands, attacking the officer to save Madison, the two embark on a harrowing journey. Together, the two flee to their reservation, seek refuge in the forest, and eventually travel to Toronto. Ultimately, they return home to confront the justice system that has failed their people for generations. Director Eva Thomas’ previous feature Aberdeen screened at Cinéfest last year.

Madison est arrêtée et agressée sexuellement par un policier après une sortie en soirée. Pour lui venir en aide, Nika, sa meilleure amie, attaque le policier. Les deux femmes fuient la réserve et se terrent en forêt avant de se diriger vers Toronto. Leur périple est ardu et éreintant. Elles finiront par rentrer chez elles pour faire face à un système de justice qui a défavorisé leur peuple pendant plusieurs générations. Le film précédent de la réalisatrice Eva Thomas, Aberdeen, a été présenté lors de Cinéfest l’année dernière.
