Brazil, 1977. Marcelo (Moura), a technology expert in his early 40s, is on the run. He arrives in Recife during carnival week, hoping to reunite with his son but soon realizes that the city is far from being the non-violent refuge he seeks. At the 2025 Cannes Film Festival, Kleber Mendonça Filho won Best Director for The Secret Agent, while Wagner Moura won the award for Best Actor.

Au Brésil en 1977, Marcelo, un expert en technologie dans la quarantaine fuyant un passé trouble, arrive à Recife pendant le carnaval. Il espère renouer avec son fils et reconstruire sa vie. Mais Recife est loin d’être le refuge paisible et non violent qu’il souhaitait trouver. Au Festival de Cannes, ce long métrage a valu au cinéaste Kleber Mendonça le prix de la meilleure réalisation. Wagner Moura a quant à lui mérité le prix du meilleur acteur.
