Nouvelle Vague

Nouvelle Vague follows the production of Jean- Luc Godards’ influential French New Wave film Breathless, which tells the story of a small-time crook, hunted by the authorities for a car theft and the murder of a police officer, who attempts to persuade a hip American journalism student to run away with him to Italy. Breathless starred Jean-Paul Belmondo and Jean Seberg and quickly became an instantaneous hit in France upon its release, attracting well over two million viewers. It has since been considered one of the best films ever made and often appears in Sight & Sound magazine’s "The Greatest Films of All Time," which is voted on by both filmmakers and critics on a decennial basis.

Ce film de Richard Linklater retrace la genèse d’À bout de souffle, de Jean-Luc Godard, une œuvre culte de la nouvelle vague du cinéma français qui raconte l’histoire de Michel Poiccard, un petit voyou insolent recherché par les autorités pour meurtre qui tente de persuader une étudiante américaine d’aller se réfugier avec lui en Italie. Ce film révolutionnaire, qui mettait en vedette Jean-Paul Belmondo et Jean Seberg, a connu un succès monstre en attirant quelque deux millions de spectateurs à sa sortie en France en 1960. Presque tout a été dit ou écrit sur À bout de souffle. Mais on ne connaît peut-être pas certaines anecdotes de cette production pas comme les autres avec ses prises directes, sa caméra dissimulée aux regards, son ton syncopé et son montage inédit.
