His Father's Son

Amir Mansouri (Shojaei) is nowhere near where he imagined he’d be at this point in his life. An aspiring chef in Toronto, Amir feels like a disappointment, to his mother, Arezou (Lohrsb), and especially to his father, Farhad (Tayari), who migrated from Iran to Canada when Amir was a child. By contrast, Amir’s younger brother the Canadian-born Mahyar (Rownaghi), seems to avoid his parents’ scrutiny. Just as Amir’s career seems to be on the cusp of a turning point, his parents receive news about the death of an old friend from Iran. The news brings with it an unexpected surprise as the friend has left a large inheritance.

Amir Mansouri est bien loin d'être là où il s'imaginait être à cette étape de sa vie. Sa carrière en est à un point tournant alors qu'il aspire à devenir chef à Toronto. Mais il se sent en train de décevoir sa mère, Arezou, et surtout son père, Farhad, des immigrants venus d'Iran quand Amir était enfant. De son côté, son frère Mahyar, qui est né au Canada, semble fuir le contrôle des parents. Un jour, Arezou et Farhad apprennent la mort d'un vieil ami en Iran. Avec la nouvelle de ce décès vient une grande surprise: cet ami a laissé un héritage important à Mahyar, et personne d'autre.
