Raging Grace

Joy (Eigenman) is an undocumented Filipina immigrant who is struggling to do the best she can to provide a good life for her daughter, Grace (Boadilla), when she secures the perfect job: taking care of Master Garrett (Hayman), an extremely wealthy but terminal old man. The new position pays well and guarantees a roof over their heads, but very soon Joy and her daughter Grace start to realize everything is not as it seems—something is festering beneath the surface, threatening all they have worked for. Raging Grace is cited as a bold “coming-of-rage” story that had its world premiere at the South by Southwest (SXSW) Film Festival earlier this year where director Paris Zarcilla won both the Grand Jury Award and the Thunderbird Rising Award.

Joy, une immigrante philippine sans papier, vit à Londres avec Grace, sa fille curieuse et espiègle. Elle travaille comme femme de ménage et épargne afin de se procurer un visa pour pouvoir demeurer en Angleterre. Mais elle doit endurer ses employeurs racistes qui l’exploitent sans remords. Un jour, elle a l’occasion d’emménager dans la vaste demeure de Master Garrett, un vieil homme riche souffrant d’un cancer. Katherine, sa nièce froide et condescendante, s’occupe de lui, mais quand elle doit s’absenter, Joy prend la relève.  La mère et la fille découvrent un secret familial  qui menace de détruire tout ce pour quoi elles ont tant travaillé. Raging Grace a été présenté en première mondiale au festival South by Southwest en mars et a valu à la réalisatrice Paris Zarcilla deux prix prestigieux.
