Kelly-Anne (Gariépy) wakes up every morning at the gates of the courthouse to secure a seat at the hyper-publicized trial of Ludovic Chevalier (Lokos), a serial killer she is obsessed with. Over the days, the young woman will bond with another groupie, Clementine (Babin), which will extricate him momentarily from his suffocating loneliness. But by dint of rubbing shoulders with the parents of the victims in a trial that gets bogged down, Kelly-Anne has more and more difficulty maintaining her psychological balance and assuming her unhealthy fixation for the executioner. When reality blurs with her morbid fantasies, she goes down a dark path to seek the final piece of the puzzle: the missing video of a murdered 13-year-old, to whom Kelly-Anne bears a disturbing resemblance to. Writer/director Pascal Plante’s previous film Nadia, Butterfly screened at Cinéfest as a Gala Film Presentation in 2020. Les chambres rouges (Red Rooms) screened at the Montreal-based Fantasia Film Festival this summer where it won awards for Best Screenplay, Best Score, Outstanding Performance (Juliette Gariépy), and Best Feature in the Cheval Noir Competition for feature films.
Kelly-Anne se réveille chaque matin aux portes du palais de justice pour s’assurer une place au procès hypermédiatisé de Ludovic Chevalier, un tueur en série qui l’obsède. Au fil des jours, la jeune femme en vient à tisser des liens avec une autre «groupie», ce qui l’extirpera momentanément de sa solitude étouffante. Mais à force de côtoyer les parents des victimes dans un procès qui s’enlise, Kelly-Anne a de plus en plus de difficulté à maintenir son équilibre psychologique et à assumer sa fixation maladive pour le bourreau. Elle tentera alors par tous les moyens de mettre la main sur l’ultime pièce du casse-tête: la vidéo manquante du meurtre d’une des victimes avec qui elle a une inquiétante ressemblance. Le long métrage précédent de la scénariste et réalisatrice Pascal Plante, Nadia, Butterfly, a été présenté lors d’un gala de Cinéfest en 2020.
