The Persian Version

Coming from two countries at odds with each other, Iranian-American Leila (Mohammadi) strives to find balance and embrace her opposing cultures, while boldly challenging the labels society is so quick to project upon her. When her family reunites in New York City for her father’s heart transplant, Leila navigates her relationships from arm's length to keep her “real” life separate from her family life. However, when her secret is unceremoniously revealed, so are the distinct parallels between her life and that of her mother, Shireen (Noor). The Persian Version screened at the Sundance Film Festival earlier this year where it was nominated for the Grand Jury Prize and won both the Audience Award and Waldo Salt Screenwriting Award in the U.S. Dramatic categories.

Issue de deux pays en conflit l’un contre l’autre, Leila, une Irano-Américaine, cherche à trouver un équilibre entre ses deux cultures opposées et défie bravement les préjugés. Lorsque son père subit une greffe du cœur à New York, la famille se réunit et Leila s’efforce de dissocier sa «vraie» vie de sa vie familiale. Toutefois, lorsque son secret est dévoilé, des parallèles bien clairs entre sa vie et celle de sa mère Shireen se dessinent. The Persian Version, une comédie dramatique, est le deuxième long métrage de Maryam Keshavarz. Le film a été présenté au Sundance Film Festival en janvier dernier où il a mérité le prix du public en plus d’être en nomination pour le grand prix du jury.
