Young Werther

Charming, passionate, totally irresponsible young novelist Werther (Booth) is sent to the city on an errand by his mother. By chance, he meets lovely Charlotte (Pill), whose allure and commitment to her impressive, stable fiancé Albert (Adams) will turn Werther’s life upside down. Werther and Charlotte embark on an emotional affair, while Werther and Albert start an awkward friendship. The more entwined this trio becomes, the harder it is to navigate the complexities of lust, affinity, and love. This romantic comedy of semi-requited love is a modern take on Goethe’s smash hit 18th century novel of tragic romance. Werther, un jeune romancier charmant, sensible, fougueux et totalement irresponsable, est chargé de faire une course en ville par sa mère. Lors d'une soirée à laquelle il a été invité, il rencontre la jolie Charlotte, qui est fiancée à Albert, un jeune homme droit et imposant. Des liens amoureux se tissent entre Werther et elle. En parallèle, il développe avec Albert une amitié plutôt inusitée. Sa vie est sens dessus dessous. Plus ce trio s'entremêle, plus il est difficile de s'y retrouver dans ces méandres d'attirance, de luxure et d'amour. Young Werther, une comédie romantique des plus vibrantes, est une adaptation torontoise contemporaine du roman The Sorrows of Young Werther (1774), de Johann Wolfgang von Goethe. Il s'agit du premier long métrage de José Lourenço à titre de réalisateur.
